How bad do you hate your RV mattress?

People seem to love to hate the mattress that came with their RV. So how bad is it? Sound off and let us know.

1. I'd rather sleep outside on the ground. Already replaced it.
2. I'd rather sleep on the floor. Will replace it soon.
3. It's mediocre at best. Thinking of replacing it.
4. It's OK.
5. I like it. No problems.
6. I love it. Better than the one at home.

I guess I'm the odd man out, we like the mattress that came with our Rockwood. It's a real full size queen, the sheets at Walmart fit fine. My 6' 1" frame doesn't hang off the end. It's also heated, which has been really nice on some chilly nights.

Overall, I get a real good nights sleep when I'm out in the camper.

My coach came with a Sleep Number, king mattress. It's just barely ok. Still just an air mattress ,that in spite of all their expensive advertising, is not nearly as good as my old Serta. It takes up a lot of room and is a real pain to change the sheets on. Overall, not worth the price.

My Damon Intruder came with a Sealy. Except for being an "RV Queen size" I give it a solid 6.

we have a queen Sleep Number with dual controls. Love it. The previous trailer had a replacement memory foam queen that was really great.

My camper has a slide out couch and by it's self it was not the best. I bought a memory foam thing I just roll up when not in use and it transformed it into a really nice queen bed.

Oh yeah, come to think of it we did experiment with a number of mattress pads. We settled on a foam pad that's not very thick and the little pyramid thingies are very small.

But what we like best is the mattress heat. On one trip we woke up to 53 deg inside the trailer, but toasty warm in the bed. Of course "I" am the one who had to get up and stoke up the furnace.

We slept in late, very late, that morning!

the mattress that came with the new fifth wheel was a full queen Sealy, which was a real upgrade from the extra thin short queen in the other trailer.
Since my XYL just had a hip replacement a few months earlier, we added a 4" memory foam topper. The two together work very nice.

Growing up on the farm we had no electricity, running water or a furnace. There was a stove in the Parlor that if you banked the coals good enough would heat up pretty fast in the morning. I know it was cold enough in the bedroom to freeze the liquid in the "Thunder Mug" (chamber pot), so 53deg would have been a heat wave. My dad got up about 4am to go feed the livestock and milk the cows. (That's why I don't farm). So when he got up he stoked the fire and added some coal to get it nice and warm in the Parlor so we would get dressed around the stove to keep warm.

Yeah the only "stoking" I did that morning was to turn up the electric heater and the furnace in the trailer. We had the foresight to load up the coffee maker the night before so all I had to do was push the "go" button.

This was enough to give me cold toes, which I applied to Sweet Wife's calves upon returning to bed. :eek: :cold:

After I got up off the floor, I made breakfast. :crutch:

I put a computer thermostat in the camper so I don't even have to get up. I have an electric heater that keeps things from freezing (including me) and then the real heat comes on at a temp I can deal with then I get up and make coffee! There is no way I could sleep through the furnace so it only comes on when the temp is really low then about the time I normally wake up the heat comes on to 68. I don't winter camp but last years ham fest in NH was a good example of what happens in new England at the beginning and end of winter. I woke up and there was ice on my antenna masts I had set up the night before (Sept) and the water hoses froze in May the year before.

I have it on good authority that there actually are people who live up there -- on purpose! This passes understanding.
