My new SteppIR vertical hiccupped and is on its way back to the factory. Desperate for a backup I rummaged through the basement in the motorhome and dug out the Yo-Yo Tenna that I’ve been planning to set up some day while camping but haven’t gotten around to yet.
I stung it from a tree about 22 feet up in an inverted V and I was really please with how well it works. I did make a “sort-of” contact with a VK this morning running 500 watts. I say sort-of because he gave me a signal report and I did hear him use my call sign.
If you are looking for very light easy to use effective temporary dipole, you might want to check this one out. Here’s where you can get more info: http://www.hamradiofun.com/

I was going to purchase one of the SteppIR verticals at one point for use at the QTH. But there was a long lead time and I wanted it now. (You know how that is).
I did not like the price but they do work well.
In the meantime I found that much like the radios they can be prone to lightning and could be a problem if left hooked up so I passed. Someone told me that he lost a couple of controllers that way.
We are currently in a very lightning prone area during the monsoons.

Yeah I too wanted to buy one but I'm not a waitful person and wanted it now. It would work here OK sense we never get thunderstorms here:( That StepperIR beam look like a real Gem but again money and time it in the way. Richard I hope you you antenna back fast and in perfect working condition. That Yo-Yo looks like the a great antenna to throw into the trailer and should work well with the tuner.

Other than the wait for one to be made and the $$ they cost they are good products from everyone I have ever talked to that has one.
