So my computer decided to make smoke while it was in my lap, this will teach it a lesson.

The solder that connected the power supply to the motherboard was fractured, hence the heat and smoke. (My computer bag broke and dropped my laptop in the Mason Civil Engineering Building stairwell at Tech.) A few dabs of solder by Radio and the laptop was in good working order again.

Good to see Ole Dad was able to get the laptop running for you again. I know it had to hurt when you dropped it. It made me cringe when I read about it.

We have a Sony Viao and love it. We treat it like a new born babe but accidents do happen.

Good to see you on Matt, looking forward to seeing more from you now that you are out of school.

Yep steady hands but the eyes are another thing. I need a magnifier just to see the color code of a resistor, glad to see I am not the only one. :poke: :D

Yeah well your average circuit board now days looks like a bunch of fleas glued down in neat little rows. The power connector was about the only thing on there that wasn't surface mount.

Yeow!

Isn't that the truth. I've thought about doing mods to a couple of the Kenwoods I have. I went as far as to locate the diodes. They are so small, flat and as you say, appear to be glued to the circuit board. Locating them was as far as I got.
