Bad Mistake

I am putting this in "Antenna Solutions" because.. Well, they were putting up an antenna when they QSYed to that great hamshack in the sky

Folks, put this on the list of things you should NOT do. Please.. Do not do this, Not at home, Not at work, Not on the road, Just DO NOT DO IT.. This is NOT how you put up an antenna.

Like I said. DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME. or anywhere else for that matter.

I wonder if some news jerk said "This is a shocking story" (Sorry, my opininon of modern jorunalism is not very good)

I didn't hear that line, I sure some wise editor didn't want his phone ringing over that one, but I did hear reporters wondering out loud "why were these people trying to out up an antenna in the dark?"

Which to me is a valid question.

On safety issues, our radio club here will not allow anyone to work on a tower project without a hard hat after 2 near misses - A dropped tool bucket missed a guy by inches and a dropped can of WD-40 took the glass out of a guys camper shell window.

If you show up with no hard hat, you will be sent home. (or out for coffee and doughnuts, at least.)

I had a piece of antenna tap me gently on the knoggin the day AFTER my health insurance went into effect (Thank God)

Next year as I got ready to climb up a tower to string some tunnel lights to light up the site... I put on my hard hat... .As I got to the point where I was going to hang the end of the string my ground man ask why I was wearing the hard hat.

I stuffed the line through the tower, then tossing with one hand and changing grip on the tower while the end of the cable was "in flight" I caught it with the other hand...


Right after it slapped me up-side the hard hat

(no damage)

Ground man just says "OH" His question having been asnwered.

I still have that hard hat.. or one just like it.

Yes, a friend years ago had brain surgery due to something dropped from a tower. I took a narrow miss from a screw driver (about 12 inches) dropped from about 350 feet. I heard it coming and "just froze". Good thing I did. I simply do not get under those guys any longer. Some of that stuff a hard hat won't help with.
