Default pc remote operation with IC-7200

Somewhere on the forum, which I can't seem to find, was info on connecting my laptop to run the IC-7200 remotely..

The only info I see on the ICOM website is that I need to buy a RC-28 USB encoder. I thought someone mentioned all i needed was software and a USB A-B cable.

Can someone assist me with finding the info?

Thanks

Is this what you are looking for?

http://icomamerica.com/en/products/a...1/default.aspx

It says you need a RC-28 USB encoder and RS-BA1 software.

Do a Google search for "Remote operation of IC-7200 ham radio", there is a lot of info there.

There is also a number of "youtube" videos on the subject and software other than ICOM.

The 7200 will connect to a computer with a USB cable and free Icom software but you'll still need software to remote it.

Default remote control software not free

After looking a bit more on the internet, it seems the RS-BA1 software is for purchase, not a free down load, for the tune of $100. If so, my project is at an end, no way I will pay that much for it, sorry Icom.

Also for Icom owners, the Icom 7200 came with a 30 page manual that shows basic operation. During this project I found out that there is a 130 page ADVANCED manual that you can download.

For example:The basic manual says there is a control for the automatic notch filter to turn it on and off. The advanced manual tells you HOW to adjust the operation of the filter. The advanced manual is a must have.

So, unless the software is available for a much reduced price, guess I'll just continue as is in the trailer.

Thanks for the suggestions, its been interesting research, and I did get the advanced manual to assist me.

I'm confused. It sounds like it's Extra, so how can it be Advanced? Even Novices Generally know they're not the same.

The 7200 should come with the advanced manual CD. I use HRD software (the free one) I can adjust the notch depth with HRD. Finding the HRD software is a bit of a chore for the free one but it's out there I use it with the 7000 also.

Thanks, I'll look for the software.

Carl,

the small manual covers GENERAL topics that a NOVICE operator would need to know.

For more TECHNICAL information, the ADVANCED manual provides a lot of EXTRA information.

How's that?

I was going to add something about first class and second class license, but that was too much.

:-)
