Until you cite an authoritative report that can be verified, I will assume that some cop (or other person) told you that and is still snickering at your credulity.

Oh, by the way, how about telling us your name and callsign?

Retired Cumberland County Maine Sheriff office electronics dept head. Prier to joining the PD I taught automotive electronics for Bosch. So I do have a pretty good ideal how it all works. OnStar is capable of shutting down a car it is a system designed by GM and is part of the overall electronic system it is not a retro fit. It's not for nothing GM owns Hughes in 1985 Hughes merged with Delco yep the people that made the cars electronics. GM is the only place you will find that feature.

That's credible. The other part of Mr Ham's claim -- wonder what his real name and callsign are -- about shutting a car down by a blast from a portable radar, even if vehicle-mounted and not handheld, is not. Some warship radars might do it to a modern vehicle, but you can't mount them in a cop car.

But you (N3LYT) really know more about that than I do. If you say I'm wrong I'll believe it.

I can tell you a war ships radar will take the front end out of a police radar unit.

And you ability to see

A friend of mine was an AWACS operator back when you had the revolving saucer on the B707. The local constable liked to ticket airmen coming into town with his radar and the fines were quite hefty.

You're not supposed to run the big radar on the ground but when they would see him parked beyond the fence they gave him a blast. Put the hand held radar in the shop for 3 weeks at a time.
