Default Casting the shadow of a light bulb

Share on social media as you like, 24 hour rule so all can play.

So what do you think, does the bulb cast a shadow of the other bulb? I know the answer by virtue of having tried the experiment. What say ye?

Of course it will. Where the light from both bulbs (A and B) hits the screen, it will be much brighter than it is where only the light from Bulb A hits because the light from Bulb B is prevented (by Bulb A) from hitting the screen. That brightness difference is the shadow of Bulb A in the light of Bulb B.

As long as I can see what I'm doing,..............
Than goodness for you engineering types sitting around thinking this stuff up. We are in good hands here. I agree with Carl, the shadow may be hardly visible, but theoretically it's there, right? I know Wade has a twist to this some where in his back pocket.

Nope. No twist or tricks. I was cleaning up some vacant rental property and there were two lamps with no shades that provided our light. I saw what did/didn't happen.

Technically, a light bulb is a "dark sucker".

For years, it has been believed that electric bulbs emit light, but recent information has proved otherwise. Electric bulbs don't emit light; they suck dark. Thus, we call these bulbs Dark Suckers.

The Dark Sucker Theory and the existence of dark suckers prove that dark has mass, is heavier than light, and is faster than light.

First, the basis of the Dark Sucker Theory is that electric bulbs suck dark. For example, take the Dark Sucker in the room you are in. There is much less dark right next to it than there is elsewhere. The larger the Dark Sucker, the greater its capacity to suck dark. Dark Suckers in the parking lot have a much greater capacity to suck dark than the ones in your room.

As it is with all things, Dark Suckers don't last forever. Once they are full of dark, they can no longer suck. This is proven by the dark spot on a full Dark Sucker. A candle is a primitive Dark Sucker. A new candle has a white wick. You can see that after the first use, the wick turns black, representing all the dark that has been sucked into it. If you put a pencil next to the wick of an operating candle, it will turn black. This is because it got in the way of the dark flowing into the candle. One of the disadvantages of these primitive Dark Suckers is their limited range.

There are also portable Dark Suckers. In these, the bulbs can't handle all the dark by themselves and must be aided by a Dark Storage Unit. When the Dark Storage Unit is full, it must be either emptied or replaced before the portable Dark Sucker can operate again.

Dark has mass. When dark goes into a Dark Sucker, friction from the mass generates heat. Thus, it is not wise to touch an operating Dark Sucker. Candles present a special problem as the mass must travel into a solid wick instead of through clear glass. This generates a great amount of heat and therefore it's not wise to touch an operating candle.

Also, dark is heavier than light. If you were to swim just below the surface of the lake, you would see a lot of light. If you were to slowly swim deeper and deeper, you would notice it getting darker and darker. When you get really deep, you would be in total darkness. This is because the heavier dark sinks to the bottom of the lake and the lighter light floats at the top. That is why it is called light.

Finally, we must prove that dark is faster than light. If you were to stand in a lit room in front of a closed, dark closet, and slowly opened the closet door, you would see the light slowly enter the closet. But since dark is so fast, you would not be able to see the dark leave the closet.

Next time you see an electric bulb, remember that it is really a Dark Sucker.

Here is a more theoritical explaination:

Good point but where does it store all of the darkness?

The dark is sucked down the wires to the dark sucker generators. The reasons the bulbs stop working is due to the inefficiency of the bulb, it does retain a slight amount of darkness which will eventaully fill the bulb.

My brain is starting to hurt on thia one.

OK, now this is getting too deep for me. Next your going to tell me that there is smoke running through my radio instead of electrons. And that a battery or a power supply is really a smoke generator.
Geesh!!!!

Andy, you already have it all figured out.

No actually both the electrons all ways stay inside it's just the smoke that can not be allowed out.

Tis a fact, Electronics run on magic smoke, we know this because if you hook up that smoke generator (The battery) wrong it lets out all the magic smoke and then the stuff does not work any more.

Now we need to get back to the light bulb question. But since the dark sucker runs on electricity and electrical items run on smoke, if one of the light bulbs was not working, like someone let the smoke out, you could not see anything anyway, so who would know if there was a shadow or not?

What is the offical answer?

Ken

I recently let out the magic smoke on the IC-740 (don't ask). It never did cast a shadow....

The family is split on this one....anxiously waiting the outcome.

BTW...Radio is fixed (one resistor and back up and running...wheh...).

My wife has not been back in my shack since the smoke fell out of a bypass cap in an old 6 meter. There must have been a great deal of smoke pressure built up in the cap over the years. After a feeble attempt to recapture the smoke the only thing left were the leads.

In my little impromptu experiment the bulbs were clear. Not only did the bulb envelope cast a shadow, but so did the filament.

Well, that makes a whole world of difference. Had I known, I probably would have had the same dumb answers.
Nice one Wade!
