Default Independence Day on ORR.net

Thought the whole gang would get a kick out of this:

Chet Atkins plays Stars and Stripes Forever on an acoustic guitar. All of the orchestral parts are there....even the "dog fight" scene.

Enjoy!

All I can say is WOW.. And he even gave a nod to Mitch Miller at the end (The spoken or sung lines were from Mitch's Show)

That shure showed off two things.

One: The versitility of the acoustic guitar.
Two: The skill of the man holding it. (Chet Atkins)

The lines at the end, You may think that this is the end -- well it is are older than Mitch Miller's TV show. My friends and I sang them before 1954 in California (my family moved to Japan in April 1954 when I was 13). Mitch Miller's Sing Along With Mitch ran from 1961 to 1964.

Here's what we sang:

Be kind to your web-footed friends
For the duck may be somebody's mother
Be kind to your friends in the swamp
Where the weather is cold and damp [pronounced domp]
You may think that this is the end
Well it is

Sometimes we sang well it ain't 'cuz there's still another chorus and then cut it off with well it is the next time around.

That is what I recall from Mitch Miller... Now,, did you know there really are lyrics to Stars and Stripes Forever.. Sousa wrote them.

Hurrah for the red white nad blue
May it wave as our standard forever

Somewhere on this hard drive should be the entire song. And not only that but a barbershop quartet singing it as well.

In fact...

Nope, never knew Sousa wrote lyrics. Not suprised that old Mitch liked the same things I liked. Mitch was a very accomplished musician who played oboe and English horn. He also despised most of the music I despised, and for the same reasons. He called rock-and-roll a "celebration of mediocrity". I call it "the Special Olympics of music". Also applies to "country music" and similar genres. They can be pleasant; they may be good entertainment; but they're not good music. The performers are entertainers, not musicians.
