Default first trip this season

We are finally going camping....Crysti wants to go for Mother's Day! Now all I have to do is make sure the camper is ready

We are going to one of our favorite state parks about an hour north. We are all ready for a getaway. The last couple of months has been pretty hectic with every family member.

Come on over and we will burn some hot dogs

Hope everyone has a great week and don't forget to wish your mom or wife a Happy Mother's Day!

Have fun on your first trip of the season. Let us know about all the fun you had. We just returned from our first trip of the season. Went to Terlinqua in south west Texas. It is located between the Big Bend National Park and the Big Bend Ranch State Park. Had a great time and met some wonderful people. Tried to keep a sked on 40 meters, but my hamstick was not enough to get over the mountains (grin).

Also stopped at a park in Alpine, called the Lost Alaskan. It is a real nice park. Stayed there twice.

Also stopped at one of our favorite Texas State Parks, Bastrop State Park. Enjoy the tall pines and with all the pine needles on the ground, don't have to worry about our four dogs (long haired) getting grass burrs. That is a big problem at camp grounds. We have three shih tzu dogs and one old Peek-a-Poo. Takes weeks to get all the burrs out of them when we get home.

We had a really good time. Got to the state park about 4:00 pm on Friday and once set up, quickly had a fire going and commenced to burn some dogs for dinner.

It actually turned cooler on Saturday. Spent the day bike riding, fishing, playing games with the girls.

The campgrounds was only about half full which left a lot of open areas for the girls to run and play in.

Not at the moment Andy...The local club agreed to help subsidize the radios for all of the new Techs. We are waiting for the radios to come. Once that happens, they will both have their own. I do get to borrow them from time to time though

My mobile 2m died and I am trying to decide on what to get to replace it. Like the idea of the D-star, but they are pretty spendy right now... hopefully I will be back on the air pretty soon

Galen,
I love my Yaesu FT-8800. True 2-bander that can do repeat, has remote head and fan. I'm not interested in D-Star, too expensive for what you get.
Good Luck and 73
Andy

I think that may be the same rig my son just bought and put in his wife's car Andy. He likes it also. Remote head that is velcrowed to her dash. He likes it also.

D-Star is too rich for my blood at the moment. Also, no activity near my location. Besides... I'm not sure I understand all that I know about D-Star.

Glad to hear they like the 8800. As far as D-Star, like digital TV, it's either there or not. It's not like you can pick the signal up out of the noise or hear it when it's 4X3. However, when it is there, it's like talking to someone right next to you. We have a few D-repeaters here, but not too many. I wonder what it would play like with a horizontal Yagi during a 2meter band opening?
