Default Strange/Unusual names of cities, towns, communities

Coming back from Houston I noticed a sign for a community called "Hot Coffee" in MS a little north of US Hwy 84, not an incorporated town. I started thinking of other strange or odd names of the like. How about Buck Snort, TN, Alligator MS, Bad Axe, MI, Gu-Win, AL, Intercourse, PA and Blue Ball, PA. I leave out all the Indian names predominately used in the West and Southwest. I grew up in Council Bluffs, IA of which it is the only one, named for the bluffs (technically called the Loess Hills, check that out also, very unusual) along the Missouri River where the Indians used to hold their council meetings, previously called Kanesville started by Mormons and a starting point for the westward trek to Salt Lake.

This ought to get the tongues wagging.

I saw that also so I didn't want to upset the "apple cart", there is also a town in Australia that has it's sign stolen a lot, until they set the name in a large piece of granite. (google most stolen signs)

There is Gay, GA.

Also Santa Claus and Bethlehem, GA. Each Christmas they share a post mark with Bethlehem, PA and folks come from miles around (even states away) to mail their Christmas cards from Bethlehem.

There is also fashionable Argyle, GA. We haven't quite figured out Enigma, GA. And who wouldn't want to miss friendly Carl, GA?

In North Carolina there is Nags Head (where is the rest of her?) Duck, and Ocracoke which brings to mind an awful idea for a soft drink.

In Alabama there is Hurricane (Near the Gulf, naturally) and Pine Apple, not Pineapple.

I didn't think about those. I know there is Valentine, NE were they get a lot of mail for a postmark on Feb 14th. I can't remember the whole name of a town or city in Michigan somewhere west of the Flint/Saginaw area that is Eat (***). Something like Eat Fred or Eat Edgar, it obviously doesn't have a large population. I did some work for startup calibration of the process instrumentation of a taconite refinery in the Michigan UP just a little west of Marquette at a town called Ishpeming next to Michigammi for a few northern Indian names. All the people living there did was hunt, fish and drink beer, not in that order. I asked them what they did in summer and the answer was they had a picnic that day.

Are you thinking of Land's End? There are at least two in Britain (one in Kent and one in Wales). Many scholars believe -- so do I -- that the marshes around Land's End in Kent were the setting for the chapters in the epic of Beowulf (just about the earliest scrap of written English we have, 700 AD or so) in which the hero Beowulf kills the monster Grendel's mother, after killing Grendel himself (herself?) in the great hall of Heorot, which (according to these scholars) was on the Kentish island whose modern name is Harty.

Other scholars think Beowulf is set in Norway or Denmark. Pooh.

In Michigan we have a few towns
Climax (site of the first "Rual Free Delivery" post office (RFD)
Christmas
Hell
Paradise
Flushing (forgot that one and added it on Edit)

Coldwater (Where you can buy a hot water heater) and the best place to buy a Trailer Brake Controller: Tekonsha of course (Though those are included because the 1st was a radio commercial and the 2nd.. Well did you know those were made in Michigan? I did)

In PA is the town of Intercourse

And then we have the following Video link....

There is a danger in loving the art of singing.. You learn or learn of a LOT of songs... Never sang that one.. but.. Well.. I know of it (Thank you Matt Wattroba).

Thought so. As far as I can determine (by Googling), there's no place by that name in Australia.

There's a S**ttington in Bedfordshire (in eastern England), though.

Also there's a S**tterton in Dorset (a county in SW England).

I was certain that this was not so.

West Quoddy is at 44 48 N, 66 57 W.

Several islands in the Aleutians have east longitudes and are therefore east of any place, like West Quoddy, that has a west longitude. The Aleutians, of course, are part of Alaska and therefore part of the USA.

Amchitka, for example, is at 51 28 N, 178 56 E, which is almost as far east as there is.

But it turns out that none of the Aleutian Islands with east longitudes are inhabited. No people, no towns. So you're right after all.

Although West Quoddy isn't the easternmost place in the USA, it is, just as you say, the easternmost town.

Alaska has the northernmost, westernmost, and easternmost places in the USA.

Who'd'a thunk it?

the southern most point of the continental US is in Key West, Fl. I would send u a pic but the line of folks waiting to get their picture taken by the marker there was way too long to wait.
However, I found that the southern most point in US states in Hawaii was almost deserted, so we got some pics from there.
Now if I could just find the pics, I seem to hav
