Default Poison Ivy and such...

In honor if my boss, who got into a mess of this stuff in his own backyard...

He's a transplant to the south from Minnesota. I guess we have more of this stuff around here than in the land of lakes.

I have never had a reaction to any of these. Went hiking on the AT, stopped for lunch in what we were told, by a self proclaimed biologist, was a patch of the stuff. We saw the dude often over the next 3 days, I guess he was watching for a reaction. Never got one.

We have all three around here as well. Got a mild case last Spring when clearing out some brush from the back of the property. Nasty Stuff.

Still need to get back there and finish that project....

Poison ivy and it's cousins are a bit strange, first exposure you are generally immune, (no reaction) however with additional exposure you get more and more and mroe senesitive, 2nd exposure you may react in a few days. Eventually you get to where just reading the words and you are "Scratching like a hound" (Ok, perhaps not quite that bad).

She comes on like a rose,
But everybody knows,
She'll get you in Dutch;
You can look but you better not touch.
Poison iv-y-y-y-y, poison iv-y-y-y-y
Late at night while you're sleepin'
Poison ivy comes a'creepin'
Arou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound
She's pretty as a daisy,
But look out, man, she's crazy.
She'll really do you in
If you let her under your skin.
Poison iv-y-y-y-y, poison iv-y-y-y-y
Late at night while you're sleepin'
Poison ivy comes a'creepin'
Arou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound
Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy
And chicken pox'll make you jump and twitch
A common cold'll fool ya
And whooping cough'll cool ya
But poison ivy, Lord'll make you itch!!
You're gonna need an ocean
Of calamine lotion.
You'll be scratchin' like a hound
The minute you start to mess around.
Poison iv-y-y-y-y, poison iv-y-y-y-y
Late at night while you're sleepin'
Poison ivy comes a'creepin'
Arou-ou-ou-ou-ou-ound
Measles make you bumpy
And mumps'll make you lumpy

Poison iv-y-y-y-y, poison iv-y-y-y-y

HAHAHAHA....

Thanks but no thanks. I have an Aunt who has the problem that every time she gets near the stuff her reactions get worse and worse. Now when she gets a case its so bad she almost has to go the hospital. Not fun.

We used to have two pet goats, who ate the stuff. No problems.

That's what I said, first exposure you may well not have a reaction, 2nd it can be a week or two, 3rd a day or two, eventually someone says "Poison Ivy" (Or sings the song I posted a link to and someone else posted the lyrics to and you are, in the words of the song "Scratching like a hound".

Sweet Wife has progressively become more and reactive to cats and yellow jacket stings. Sad, too, because she was a real cat loving person. Now she tells her music students not to play with their kitty before lessons!

She has only the mildest reaction to poison ivy, and I still have none at all.
