Default Atlanta Flooding

Did everyone see the flooding situation in Atlanta ? The rollercoaster at "6 Flags" looks more like a water-slide. Lake Lanier should be normal or higher.

I wonder if all that water is effecting you "Radio" ? Do we have other members in the Atlanta area ?

You can see by the below Corp of Engineers graph that the water is quickly rising at my location. I'm about 350 miles south of Atlanta. It's possible the water will come up into our back yard again. That will be the second time this year.

Hope everyone is ok in the heavy rain areas. Keep us posted Jim. Are you getting the rains too or is it the residual from the north of you?

We have received a lot of rain here Andy. About 8 inces last week, but nothing like Atlanta. The rising water here is only slightly related to local rains. Most of it is due to the rains in North and Central Georgia. The Chattahoochee River runs through Atlanta. In South Georgia it merges with the Flint River to form the Apalachicola River. The Apalachicola is about a mile from where I live and effects the Chipola River, another smaller tributary on which I reside. The Chipola originates about 70 miles north of my location from some large springs in the Marianna, FL area.

The below photo shows the Chattahoochee and Flint Rivers and how they merge to form the Apalachicola that runs on to the Gulf of Mexico. Here is a link to a Corp of Engineers site that indicates the river levels at various locations along the rivers. Many of these levels are at locks and dams on the river system. Click HERE. I check these levels almost daily.

It won't be a serious problem for us. I have to move our pile of fire wood. Can't park anything under the rear shed, where I normally park the truck. It makes a mess with floating debris we have to clean up afterwards. Covers about 1/4 of the back yard. The fishing is normally great on the rising water though. Hi Hi....

Where is Wade ? Wonder if he was effected by the Atlanta floods ?

Wade is high and dry, thank you. All the bad stuff was on the north side of town and near rivers and creeks. I live on a rolling ridge, an ideal spot for a tower and antenna! I know this because the FAA and the railroads have several microwave point to point towers near here, and they generally put those up on high places.

The only problem is making sure the gutters and foundation drains keep the water out of the basement, and they held up well this time.

We did get the camper set up just in case the power went out we could have TV and refrigeration. The storms were not severe, that is no hail, high winds or tornado activity but they sure did dump a lot of water.

I just spend so much time looking for work I don't have the time or creativity to get on the forums much anymore. Have a good local lead about 15 minutes commute time away. Perhaps that will come through.

We think about you often Wade and keep hoping something will come through for you. Glad you didn't get any of that water. Things looked pretty wet up there.

Wonder if you have heard any reports on Lake Lanier. I know those people are glad to get some water back under their docks and boats.

I forgot to load the boat for this long trip to Douglasville, GA !! Maybe it will be dry by the time we arrive early next week.

Left Las Vegas at 7am this morning and am now in Grants, NM. Leave here to morrow for Amarillo or beyond, depends. Not in a big hurry, as dont have to be back until Oct 12th.

Monitor 146.52 in the truck while traveling, with it listed on the back of the RV (Call and Freq) but no takers yet, even though I have seen 3 hams with vhf antennas pass me. Sure aint like the old days....

Will keep you advise of the trip, when I have a chance. Did work a satellite pass last nite while in LV with a new Yaesu FT60 HT I bought at AES that afternoon. Along with my ELK yagi. Receiver could be better, but what can you expect for $190 !!

Jim,

We must be close, The Flint River runs by my house the equalvalent of 2 or 3 blocks at its closest. Of course the Flint River I am talking about goes from here into Flint Michigan, so maybe not that close.

Hi John,

Very good to hear from you. You are moving right along. Not that I mind at all, but you might consider opening a thread for your trip. That way we can keep an eye on you and know your last posts. Wade like to lay out a map and move little RV's around on it, like he's in the "war room".

I don't know why it is people don't monitor .52 on the road anymore. I think there is a whole new breed of hams out there no days. Many are not familiar with the way we used to do things. Just again, MHO.

Naturally John.... We want photos of your travel when you have time. If we don't have pics, "it didn't happen". You don't think we are taking your word for it, do you ?

As you get closer, please let us know when you might be passing in our area. Might eyeball you.

73, Jim

Thats right Dan, there are two Flint Rivers. I think your Flint is much larger than the one I'm near. Actually, I'm about 80 miles from the southern Flint.
