That's me - just another one! My name is Mike and I live in the triad area of NC with my wife Ann and our managerie. I have been a radio operator since I went took the FROC for my old uncle, and my wife and I have been RVers for over a decade, I am just now mixing the two. You can see the RV in the signature, the truck always has a dual band of some sort in it, and I have an FT-897D to take for HF work at night.

Glad I found this forum, reading about others experiences is always enjoyable.

Y'all be good!

Welcome aboard Mike!

Always good to have another Marine around. Never know when you might need one.

Is that what FROC is, a First Phone? I used to have one of those, P1-7-2170, that I got at the Miami FCC office in 1958. Years later I exchanged it for the lifetime license. All the First Phones are expired, now, for decades, and they don't issue them any more.

And welcome, Mike.

Welcome to ORR Mike, I too am glad you found us. Like our fearless leader said, "It's always good to have another Marine."

I really hate to show my ignorance (and I know there will be comments about that statement) but where is the "triad area" of the Tarheel State? In years past I have spent some time on visits to the Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg area. Other than that area only in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of your state.

I noticed in the signature section that you have a Jayco Eagle. You cannot go wrong there. We have owned two Jayco Eagle fifth wheels. Jayco produces a fine product for which an owner can be proud. Is yours a fifth wheel or travel trailer I wonder? No matter, it's a good product.

You will find the guys and gals here very knowledgeable in ham radio and the RV business. Hope that you will check in with us often and looking forward to your posts.

LOL! No - Field Radio Operator's Course. I was a battery operated grunt first off, decided the airwaing had it much better so went there for the next 10 years, really hated running around with that radio on my back!

That is not to say I am not interested in a GROL - that will be my next accomplisment, just to do it.

Marines always find each other and have the best of times!!! ;-)

Triad area of NC is the Greensboro - Winston-Salem - High Point area. I live in High Point and work in W-S.

The Jayco is a TT - 266FBS - bedroom up front and a nice big slide, we are very happy with the room we have inside. We have so far replaced the jacknife sofa POS with a nice sofa from the company my wife runs, and she has recovered the cornices and dining area padding/bench cushions, and replaced the curtains. We now have a 14yo camper with more contemporary colors inside. New airbed/mattress is on the way. Next step is the carpet and flooring...

It never really ends.

Actually I had my 1st Class FCC (May 1979 for those keeping score!) before I had any of my ham licenses. I had a hard time with Morse, but radio theory seemed to come naturally.

With some, the other way 'round, of course.

So I never was a Novice or a General. Went straight to Tech and then to Advanced and stayed there for about 30 years. Then decided to get the Easy Extra when they started putting those out. Decided to keep the odd-ball 2x2 with a "K" up front call since they don't make those anymore.

BTW I don't mean to mislead anyone into thinking I was a Marine. It's that there are several on ORR.net and you can't have too many was the thought.
