Default Christmas Weather in Atlanta

They let us go early from work yesterday, Christmas Eve.

The thermometer in the truck said 72F when I arrived in the parking lot Christmas Eve at 5:30 am. The weather forecast was for strong rainstorms. Two hours later the busiest airport in the world was closed.

And very dark. I felt sorry for the crew of a FedEx MD-11. They tried to make it out before the rain came but they didn't make it. They sat on the taxiway for more that an hour while the storm blew over. It rained so hard the giant aircraft disappeared in the darkness. The sun is actually up at this time, about 7:30 am, but it is night time dark out there.

Since it was Christmas Eve, and not because of the weather, they let us in the back shops and some other positions go home early, about 11:30. The storms were still coming through, all roads were covered in water, some flooded and some washed away. It took about an hour and a half to travel 18 miles home.

When I got home I sucked water out of the basement. Then changed clothes into shorts and t-shirt to go the store and get more tape to wrap presents. Ran the air conditioner to get the humidity down in the house.

Shorts, T-shirts, air conditioning and floods the day before Christmas. The only thing normal about it was running out of tape.

And a friend found this and stuck it up on FB...

Oh yeah, the storm took out our broadband connection, no phone, no cable tv, no internet. After a few hours, and you get used to it. It's pretty nice! Was out about 30 hours.

Today we had a very nice Christmas celebration. Ran the air conditioner the whole time!

Here's a shot from inside the hangar looking out at the stranded FedEx MD-11.

Look carefully!

I do hate digital cameras sometimes. The sky outside was in reality much darker that it appears in the picture, and our airplanes are not near that yellow looking.

Much better to be on the ground and wishing you were in the air, than in the air and wishing you were on the ground.

Ah, Wade -- digital cameras make it easy to fix it just the way you want it. Everyone who has a digital camera should also have PhotoShop.

I am stuck in S.E. Georgia (near Darien) and we sang "The Snow Lay On The Ground" which of course it did not when Chrtist was born but at 80 Degrees and full sun it did not here either.. No rain though.. Just humidity.

Today is much like yesterday with a high expected of 1 degree less and a current of 71 according to in-accuweather, No rain in forcast at least though Wed....

Long week, lots of things to do this week, thankfully this is the week end and I survived another Christmas.. Though I'll tell you at one point i was not so sure. I don't do midnight any more. less it's in the "little room" for a few mintues.

I ran the image through Picasa. Didn't use GIMP (open source photo shop) because there were no "flaws" to be edited.

I didn't want a blue sky. I wanted a dark, dark grey sky and in both our pictures the sky is blue-ish and it's about as light outside as it is in the hangar. In reality, the sky was incredibly dark, and the camera thought it would make it pretty for me.

I wanted the sky to be ugly and foreboding. Because it really was ugly and foreboding.

Where is Ansel Adams when you need him?

Hmmm, that's easier to spell if you use the Icelandic (or Anglo-Saxon) alphabet for the th sounds.

Default additional weather reports

we left Fort Irwin, CA this morning about 9 AM, it was about 30 deg.

Noon in Las Vegas, NV was 47 degrees.

6 PM in Cedar City Utah was 10 degrees (dropping 8 degrees in 10 minutes).

Can't wait to get back to Colorado where I can warm up.
