I noted the $8.97 emergency (wind up) radio ads that are appearing on ORR.net.

That's from NewsMax magazine, and I have one of those radios. They'll give you a radio if you sign up for the magazine.

Anyway, for $8.97 they'll sell you the radio as advertised without the magazine. And for under $10, it's not a bad little radio. Nice present for someone.

IMHO.

We've been using the WalMart Wx Radios... They sell for about $25 each. We have one in the house and one in the RV. You can program them for the county you are in or want to be notifies about. very nice radio. My son gave us another. One he had ordered from Amazon.Com... It has a few more features and I think the receiver is a little hotter in it. I'll look up the model and send it incase anyone might be interested. The major thing is it does not continue to broadcast long after the announcement is complete, keeping you awake in the middle of the night. You can also lockout or bypass marine warnings that you are not interested in. It's very nice.

It's not really a weather radio. It's just a AM/FM/SW with a hand crank dynamo for power or will run on AA batteries. I think you can receive the WX channels on it but I don't recall.

We've got something similar to that Wade... It's AM, FM and shortwave. Crank it to charge a battery in it and it will run for awhile. Neat little gadget.

I know there have been several threads running that discussed Wx Alert Radios and there being no need to not have one. I think Wade posted one a year or so ago, concerning the ones sold at Wal-Marts. We've got a couple of these: Midland WR100 (http://www.weatherconnection.com/product.asp?itmky=860) . One in the camper and one in the house. They sold at Wal-Mart for about $25. I see now they have been discontinued and there is a newer version out for about $30.

As I mentioned earlier, we have a new one with a few more bells and whistles. It's a Reecom (http://www.reecominc.com/). We probably would not have gotten it, but it was given to us by one of our sons. Very nice for the price also.
