Thanks again for the Forum! :hello:

I have been itching to ask this question:

Should we be using /mobile when we give our call sign? We are fulltimers so should we make up something like "sometimes mobile but not right now"?

I kind of like to reserve /mobile for when the vehicle is moving since most nets will give priority to mobile check-ins.

I've asked around but nobody really knows. What do you think?

First off, I think you are welcome here on orr.net! :hello:

But to answer your question, I don't think the FCC much cares anymore. If I'm doing operations outside of the 4th call zone I will ID by saying "KU4OJ portable 5" just to make the oldtimers happy.

Sometimes when traveling away from home I will sign KU4OJ/mobile just to let the locals know I'm on the road and not familiar with the area or its repeaters. But that's just what I do.

Again, welcome to the forum!

When I got my ticket in 1990 I always used the protable or mobile.

Now days I rarely hear anyone doing that. Some Nets out there I still hear it but its rare.

Hello everyone. Just joined this morning. Looking forward to being here.

I asked myself the same question on signing mobile or portable. I do so just as you do Radio. Never had any static over it so will continue. I only do this when using voice modes.
