This guy at work used to work in a hospital. He was telling stories about people coming in with the DTs and how they would always see pink elephants.

So I put on my straight face said "I got the DTs once, but when I got to the hospital this big pink elephant met me at the door and said I'd be fine and to go home and sleep it off. So I did."

His response... "REALLY!?!?"

So I repeated myself, stating with emphasis that I was met at the door by a pink elephant. Still doesn't get it. So me and two other guys try explaining it to him.

He never did understand it was a joke. So it was time to make a poster...

I'm seeing them too. They're hard to impress.

Had a roommate once who had the DT's. closest I've ever gotten.

And yes, this was in a hospital.. Burn unit, Not my favorite place to spend a week or two. IF at all possible.. AVOID that unit. Seriously.

Coronary ICU is another place I hope never to visit.

maybe it was a rather LARGE nurse in pink scrubs and was for real.

I remember an episode of the TV show Adam-12 where they stopped this drunk who was staggering down the road with a very high class bottle of Hooch.. (Seems he had found an abandonded case of the stuff) and he was willing to tell Reed and Malloy where he found it if they would just check out one thing for him... You see, he had seen a Pink Elephant.

Sure enough, when they ronded the corner in front of the night club there it was, a Genuine Pink Elephant.. (Elephant painted pink) you see the bar in the night club had a new drink they were advertising, The Pink Elephant, and that was the ad-scheme.

Of course when I was in that burn unit I got all the best looking nurses (And trust me, Some of the nurses in that unit were quite good looking.. Mike, Big John, Little John.. (Well, I'm sure the ladies found them good looking.. Me, not so much).

Another hospital I developed the theory of Nursing.

The level of pain (Where 10 is "Go fetch a ladder to get me down from the ceiling" is equal to the looks of the Nurse on the Bo-Derrick scale.

If the nurse is a 10, It's gonna hurt

If the nurse is a one.. You may not even wake up when she gives you the shot.

I have found an inverse relationship to gray hair. The grayer her hair, the less it hurts.

I should point out.... Yet another time I was in hospital and they did regular tests, what is called a "Fingerstick" test where they prick your finger and take a drop of blood.

One of the tests.. I would swear they never ran the test, I mean I have absolutly NO recollection of them taking that drop of blood. Yet the computer clearly shows they did it and the results logged are proper for me at that time.. The nurse who did the test was that good that I actually DID sleep through it. So that line about "You might not even wake up" was .. Well, it actually happened.

And yes, the grayer the hair usually the better they are at their job due to experience. Thus less pain.

Sometimes I think the cute young things.. Well they are trying to send you a message.. like BACK OFF.

Don't even ask bout Shorty or Little (Two fictional hospital patients) or this forum mbght become "R" rated.

When I was in ICU recovering from heart surgery, a cute-young-thing nursing student wanted to examine the plastic tubes coming out of my chest. "May I take a look at your chest?" she asked. "Of course," I replied. "May I have a look at yours?"

She laughed, and didn't even blush. Also, she denied the request.

For medical reasons I'm sure, since they want to keep pulse and BP at a manageable level for a few days.
