Anyone want to suggest the best way to use a Tarheel antenna mounted to a fiver ladder? Specifically, what has anyone done for ground radials and/or counterpoise ideas? I know the antenna will work but I am looking for ideas for "the other half" of the antenna that were successful. Thanks!

I helped a friend years ago repair his MH roof right in the middle of the roof was a 10" saw blade with a SO239 in the center! Fastened to the saw blade was a chis cross of aluminum tape. I have no ideal if it worked or not he was not a ham just a new MH owner. I use a HS screw driver on mine on a pole attached to the rear bumper with out radials and it works fine but my camper is aluminum roof and all and I have gone to great pains to make sure it's all grounded to the frame etc. Just getting it above the ground losses maybe all you need wonder if your fiver has aluminum frame work under the fiberglass many do?

There is a big fiver parked next to me, and yesterday there was a guy on the roof, but it turned out he was a Hoosier and not a Tarheel.

LOL! That's was good. I would add my response but being from USC area and what with the teams mascot it probably wouldn't be appropriate!

My Hoosier doesn't work worth a darn anymore. But my Tarheel sure does! :jitter:.

On topic: Just guessing here... but if the ladder is bonded / grounded to the body & the frame I'd suspect you'd get out 'bout as well (or better) as with a Tarheel-car-mobile installation.

I love my lil' Tarheel on my Towncar. No radials there...:D Just trunk-lip mounts. Worked Georgia from the California / Nevada state line a couple years back with an Icom 7000 on 40 meters late afternoon.
