Received my Jackite 28 ft pole today.

So, as the eager ham, I wanted to put it up and check how the G5RV jr (in the package for months now) would work.

Don't mind that the temperature is 100 degrees, I'll just drink water and move slow.

I removed the top 2 sections of the pole, they didn't look too sturdy to support the antenna, so now I have a 23 ft pole.

But putting the ladder mount on the 5er ladder at 5 ft height, Im back at 28 ft.

All going well, just about ready to hook up the rig, and BOOM, lightning.

Game over, mast is retracted, all the toys put up, maybe tomorrow I can finish it and get some pics.

Will report when I get it done.

update

jury-rigged some standoffs so the ladder line stays at least 6" from the jackkite pole.
The ant loads on all bands (40-10), with some being more "touchy " to match than others.

10 meters is iffy, hard to get below 3:1 SWR.

Interestingly, 20 meters does not need a tuner, I use the antenna direct. So, wonder where the resonance is coming from?

If you add the 17 feet of ladder line with the 26 feet of one side of the top section, you get pretty close to a full half wave for each side of the antenna. Is that correct? I hav7en't searched too much on the antenna theory of this antenna.

Thought this might start a discussion of G5RV type antennas.

PS- I do have an air wound balun at the feed point of the ladder line.

Where is resonanc coming from?
On the G5RV it comes from many things.. The elements AND the feed line, Yes, the feed line is part of the antenna (normally not a desierable thing but this is an exception) oh.. and by Feed line I do not mean the Coax,, but the ladder line running up to the antenna from the box at the bottom.
