Too easy for the geniuses that populate the galleries of ORR.net...

But the grandkids might like it. And I thought it was kind of neat to look at.

You're right, Wade, that one is easy. Many kids could solve it at an age equal to an apple divided by a coconut, or maybe three coconuts.

It's not a Japanese puzzle, I see. In Japanese, there's a word kokonotsu that means nine. It's pronounced, almost exactly, "coconuts". Another word for nine is ku.

I thought the answer was fruit salad.

Guess I need to get out more.

Yeah I stole it from facebook. But I do not know the answer. Give us a few more days to struggle with this and then let us know.

Note that on the 3rd equation there are 2 halves of the coconut.

And in the 4th equation there is one half of the coconut and only 3 bananas in the bunch, where all the other bunches have 4.

Hmm?

Maybe not as easy as I first thought.

if all the banana icons are the same, I think my answer is right.

Radio - are the banana icons generic, or are we splitting bananas by number of fruits in a bunch? ( or making banana splits - dang there goes the food references again)

- are the banana icons generic, or are we splitting

Clearly it's our choice. If we split nothing, the answer is 16. If we split only the bananas, or only the coconut-halves, it's 15. If we split both the bananas and the coconut-halves, it's 14.

Since it took extra work to make two different banana-bunch icons and two different coconut-half icons, I think it's intended as a gotcha and the intended answer is 14, with the unworthy saying 16.

Oh that's rich. And thanks for the much clearer images.

I vote for 14, engineers like the precision of including split coconuts and counting the numbers of bananas.

Oh, wait, are engineers the guys who went bananas when they cracked their coconuts?

(sorry, that was the best I could do).

Have a great weekend.

No. I'm an engineer, and engineers are not fruity.
