On the return leg of our journey to SW Iowa from Atlanta we stopped at a wonderful state park in the far western tip of Kentucky on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River.
The name of the park is Columbus State Park in the village of Columbus, KY. The park is the site of a civil war fort named Fort Quinby. Manicured large grassy areas in the campground, park benches, porch type swings. 27 sites are 20/30amp only, $18.00. I had a "preferred" site which was 20/30/50amp service with full hookup, 9 of them. Sunday-Thursday was $25.20 with 10% discount for seniors. Very clean and well kept up. Laundry, bath house, museum, gift shop, open year around with no water hookup in winter although there is site to get water for your fresh water tank. I may want to spend some time here just relaxing. People working in the park were very accommodating. While we were there a group of runners for St Jude Hospital/Memphis to Peoria, IL used the park for a couple meals and then moved on. Attached are some photos of the park.
