There's plenty of hurricane and other nasty TD weather going on right now.

Cat 2 hurricane Gaston out in Atlantic is pretty much headed out to sea. However unnamed storms TD 8 and TD 9 threaten Florida and Atlantic Seaboard states with winds and heavy sustained rains, as much as 15 inches in places.

National Weather Service has information up as does Hurricane Watch Net.

Time for Carl to get out of Dodge (Tallahassee). Have friends that live in The Villages which should be right in the center of the path by the looks of the forecast maps. From what I have read so far the storm in the Gulf will move pretty fast so they say there will be heavy rains but they won't last long. The only hurricane I have been in was right here on the west side of Atlanta, still had 70mph winds when it went through. I was living with my son south of Douglasville at the time and his house was about the only one in the neighborhood that didn't have a hole punched in the roof from falling trees.

I think there's very little danger here. I would expect some rain, possibly briefly heavy, and maybe a little wind but not too much (15-20 kt). If it comes near us at all, we'll be on the west side of it. Tropical cyclones rotate counterclockwise, so our winds will be from the northeast approximately, and they will have passed over land for perhaps 5/8 of a rotation.

I'm on high ground, so no risk of flooding, though some other parts of Tallahassee are fairly likely to flood. The county just south of us (we're in Leon; Wakulla is between us and the gulf coast) will probably flood a lot if there's tropical-storm rain, but it always does and they're used to it.

I'm not worried at all, actually. Worst that would happen is that the Tallahassee Amateur Radio Society meeting on Thursday evening may be poorly attended.

Well, now it looks like it's going to center-punch Tallahassee, and be a weak hurricane when it does so (about 1 am tomorrow). I'm almost unhooked and will be elsewhere for a couple days. That's why I bought the Diesel Pusher after all, instead of a trailer -- much easier to unhook and move.

Looks like they'll all be out doing ARES stuff

Tampa is getting ready for a clobbering as well.

I'm in Eustis, FL at the home of a friend. Diesel Pusher is safe, toad is safe, and I am safe. Probably won't be able to check in at ORR again until I get back to Tallahassee.

So which way did you run?

I guess south would have been the best option, or northwest if you got an early start.

Eustis is just north of Orlando. Using a friend's computer. RV park not answering telephone -- guess their phones are out. I have no idea whether there is power there yet, or when I can return. And I just paid a month's rent!
