So, the military wants to improve radio communications for military operations, so they are proposing to set off plasma bombs in the ionosphere to improve propagation.

Say What????

Found this little article on Fox News in the Military section.

It didn't say how high the bombs would be detonated ( which layer ?), and how much area they were supposed to cover, or the frequency of the radio communications, but it sure sounded like HF.

Interesting concept, but I can only assume this would be a limited area and of short duration, but an interesting concept.

here you go...

Their description of why radio waves propagate better at night is a little vague. Interesting read, though.
