Who's going this year? It's been a while since I have gone to Hamvention. I lived about a mile from Hara Arena for 18 years and went twice wasn't licensed for part of that time. I will leave on Sunday, the 14th and take my time going up. I will settle down in Ohio at the Lancaster Ohio Campground, I believe at one time it was a church camp. My son, KG7OF lives in Pickerington about 30 miles from where I will camp. I could have gotten closer but nearly all of them had lousy reviews. Most state parks in Ohio are electric only because of the freezing climate so I wasn't interested in them. There are RV sites at the fairground but the prices I initially saw were ridiculous. I see they are booked full now,

We plan to attend Hamvention on Friday. It's about an hour drive from his house. DW wanted to go this year so we could see our Great Granddaughter. I am going to spend one day to visit the AF Museum. One day isn't enough to see it all but that's about as much exercise I can handle. I was reading a ham forum and seems some people want to boycott the event because of the site that was chosen. They were saying they didn't want to go to a "cattle barn". I thought Hara was a cattle barn when I lived there, that place was ready to fall in 20 years ago, the Wampler family didn't give it much maintenance.

I hope to be there. I should have parking about 16 miles out.. Still doing body work but the plan is to wrap up the body work today or tomorrow. Hit the road Thursday .. Spend weekend in SC. Short stop in TN next weeki, and then on to Ohio for 2 weeks, then on to MICHIGAN and DMV for a driver's license renewal, then follow my RV's hood wherever it goes.

Ah, you're mobile again. When did you get the go machine put in?

From what I learned when the move was first announced, the Xenia facility is a multi-use one, and many different events are held there throughout the year. I'm quite certain that they clean it between events. That kind of snobbery doesn't do anything to promote the hobby and the spirit of continuing one of the premier ham events of the year.

Given the horrible reports I have read regarding the Hara Arena over the last few years, the Xenia facility seems to be a major improvement.

When I went out this AM for other reasons I also checked on the RV's repair state.. One more coat of paint, Re-install some lights, Remove tape. Rub it out (TOtal time about 2 horus) and I'm road ready. (Save for the final step.. the one that hurts.. PAYING)
