Pretty quiet here on the ORR.net.

Where were you? Camping? RV show? Yardwork? (me) Hiding from another rash of tornados? (me, too)

What were you doing?

Trying to figure out why why multiband vertical won't work with an amp. Very frustrating weekend. It must be a short somewhere, but I can't find it. Can't wait for my new antenna to get here.

It works without the amp?? If it works with just the transmitter then I'd be looking at the amp. You got impedence matched between TX and amp??

I actually worked a little DX on 17 and 20 this Sunday afternoon from the MH parked in the driveway.
Even the Japan stations were active.

Radio, the antenna has several traps and apparently there is a short on one of them. I'll have to take each of the traps apart tomorrow and see if I can locate the proble.

Thanks

I really need to get my multi-band dipole back together. Of course, there's always the quad! Another weekend, maybe.

Richard, what make and model antenna is it?

The antenna is a Hy Gain DX-77. It is a windom antenna with traps. I called Hy Gain yesterday to see if they could provide some clues on where my problem might be and the techincian said it was most likely a short in one of the traps. I played around with it last night and did find one place where one of the capacitors was very close to a small bolt. I moved the bolt. I tried the amp this morning, but it only work through 200 or so watts, then the radio shut down. So it does look like a short.

I'm putting entirely too much time on that antenna and with a new one coming in the distant future, I think I'll bite the bullet and just settle for barefoot operations until the Big SteppIR gets here.

Well Saturday we finally got the long awaited rain they have been forecasting for a week. It rained a whole 0.09" :cheer: Our last significant rain was November 25th with 0.50". As you can tell it is a might dry around these parts! There are young dogs walking around that had never seen rain in their lifetime!
Sunday, after the flooding rains of Saturday(sarcasm), I did yardwork, and then installed a Yeasu FT-7800 in our other vehicle. Now both vehicles have FT-7800's in them. Just another incentive for my wife to continue studying for her Tech. ticket :poke:

Lost 160 feet of fence during a big storm a few weeks ago so installed 70 feet this weekend and 55 feet last weekend only have one more section to do but have to find the owner to see if he will share the expenses, the neighbor rents so might take awhile to get a hold of him.

Oh yeah, I repaired a $10 chinese made alarm clock that belonged to my father-in-law before he passed away. Got inside the thing and realized he had paid too much! Anyway, I got it fixed and since it runs on a "C" battery and I like the way it sounds when it rings, now it goes into my "ever growing pile of stuff that goes in the camper"

Got on the air for the first time as a portable from the RV. Just working the 2 meter repeaters in an area about 50 miles from home. Had those torrential rains you were talking about, no joke! 2 inches in less than 30 minutes.

I spent Sat in storm spotter training, 8-4, what fun. Then I had to drive through heavy rain for 30 miles to get home. Yuk. I've spent Sun and Mon working on my remodeling project, now I get to rest as we are looking for ice and sleet for the next few day's so I can't go outside and cut the wood I need.

At least its something to do when I'm not working. (ie telephone not ringing)

Thanks, Radio, Just the first time portable. Not real sure that 20,000 pounds in motion is the best ham shack!! Will grow into it, I guess.

Great site, keep up the good work.

Keep on RV'n Mac

It doesn't have to be "in motion" to be a great shack.

As for the weekend, and since then, just being a couch potato (as instructed), after receiving cardiac stents last week, and the week before. They did me in two hits, since the dye is so harmful on the kidneys, and I have a kidney transplant.
