Ok, Just in case I didn't find the correct forum, mod's, feel free to change this.
Anyway, who has the 746 pro and how has it worked for you? I know the earlier ones have had problems but I decided to take my chances since it is the only one I've found that does all the things I want to do and better too.
Bring it on.
Don't own one, but talked to a good friend of mine, W2LKS-SK, John Calise, now a silent key had one. It was just unbelievable how that rig sounded. All I can tell you is that he liked the rig and I have been thinking of getting one myself once we make the big move after I retire in August.

Sorry, I can't help. I've never operated one. Looks like good reviews on eHam. Nice looking rig.

I have one, I bought it slightly used on Ebay Although I am only a tech I have used it on 2 meters and love the sound quality and good range it seems to have on a Cactus j pole.
I have listened on the other bands and seem to receive well using a slinky di-pole in an inverted V with a 20 foot peak. I even heard a call from someone at sea off the galpagos islands on the maritime net.

KC1BUD, you are the only other person I have heard of using the slinky antenna. I used mine in an inverted v, too. My ropes rotted, and I haven't put it back up, but enjoyed it while I used it.

I use 2 10 foot plastic electrical conduit poles the first is about a foot in the ground and I guy the poles at the joint between the two. The poles hold the center of the V in the air and my coax runs up inside the poles. I use dacron to tie off each end but I have used other cording not made from dacron that I have had to replace because of the sun.
Right now mine might as well be down too, I am in the process of moving my gear from the basement to a room that we just had gained from some remodeling to move my Father In Law into the garage which we turned into his apartment. We built a garage and breezeway behind his apartment. That gave me a 9x13 foot room to use for my Radio stuff.

Well congrats on gaining a radio shack. My gear is in our bedroom (not always the best place to have it).

I dunno if its too late to post, but I got a new 746PRO a couple a days ago. I sold my 706MKIIG and WOW what a difference. I dont plan on going straight mobile anymore so this was to be my Home station and when I figure it out My 5th wheel station.
You would do well with it :D.

I went ahead and bought one for Christmas, a present for me since I've been so good. :D I really like it, the receive is great and I've had nothing but great audio reports. Now if it will just not exhibit any of the bad habits that others have reported but even if it does, I'll just get it fixed and go on. For the price and all it would still be worth it. I think I'll use my old 857D for mobile and 5th wheel use as well as backup.

I had a chance to buy a nice 746 pro with all of the filters last year and still kicking myself for doing not it. It was a goo price too...but I had just bought my FT897D and antenna for the truck...figured, the XYL might have a cow over that.
Tom, post a time and we can try to make contact this weekend. Week or so back I could not pull out FL, but had a tremendous report from DFW on 40M.
