wind advisory in effect from 8 am edt /7 am cdt/ this morning
to 7 pm edt /6 pm cdt/ this evening.

The natl weather svc in tallahassee has issued a wind
advisory.which is in effect from 8 am edt /7 am cdt/ this
morning to 7 pm edt /6 pm cdt/ this evening.

Strong west to nw winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 35
mph are expected through early evening. Because soils remain
saturated from recent rains.there is an increased risk that
such windy conditions can contribute to more falling trees across
the forecast area than would normally occur under such winds.

A wind advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds
this strong can make driving difficult.especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Here the winds have kicked up white caps on the Ogeechee River just south of Savannah. And tomorow we will hitch up while the thermometer reads mid 30's.

Well, guys, having decided the day we bought our TT to have an 'equalizing' and 'sway control' system style hitch, our rig handles great in cross winds and blasts from 18 wheelers. Hardly ever feel a twitch. Don't know what it's like to compare to a 'without' rig, but I'm thinking I don't wanna find out.

I guess most 5ers don't have much sway problems in high winds?

I think you made the right descision McKann. I've had a couple of TT's. The longest was a 30 ft Dutchmen. I had anti-sway and equalizer system on it. I'm not sure I could have safely pulled it without the bars. I was never real comfortable with it.

Not much problem with the 5'er. It's pretty high profile though. I try not to pull it when I know the wx is going to be gusty and if I should, I pull it slowly. I do occassionally get a push of air from an 18 wheeler passing us on an interstate. Normally not that serious though.

We were lucky the other day on our last leg home. I knew the weather was going to be bad but took a chance to get home because we had flooding conditions here. We were behind a tornadic front pushing through our area. We were listening to weather reports on the way home. The wx moving in the same direction we were, we were about 50 miles behind it, so we lucked out.

We had 35 - 40 mph crosswinds coming up I-16 from Savannah. It's not that the trailer would sway in the typical dog tail wagging, it's just the entire settup could be blown into the next lane. No fishtail, no wag, just this giant hand pushing you over the white line. Both hands on the wheel, and paying 110% attention to where we were at in the road.

I noted the 18 wheelers were a bit wobbly too.

Wow what weather in far west Texas this week. Winds typically in the 30 to 40 mph range and had 52 mph gust one day. Had one night with a 24 dF low and 85 the next day.

We were camped in a valley so not much radio work. Did talk to a station in Oregon and Mexico City. Late one afternoon, worked Milano, Italy and Zurich from a 5600 foot high peak with my Yeasu FT8897d and ATAS 120 antenna on 20m. It was hard to get a call into Europe due to the 1kW and 1.5kW east coast stations. When chasing DX, lots of them do not follow any rules for courtesies. They start blasting their call before the station call QRZ.

Seems some of the operators need a refresher course in manners.

Heard on TV that Pasco county, FL had some bad winds lately. Any issues with you folks down in FL?

That's about 4 hours south of me Andy. That front went through here yesterday afternoon and last night. We had some tornadoes in our area but nothing serious. Received 3 inches of rain though. That should be headed on down Mark's way. There are others on here also from that area.

Today we have gotten our first severe weather and are under a Thunderstorm watch until 10 PM. We did have a warning for about an hour that ended at three.

Definitely the season for it. :radio:

The news the other night had a video from a "Cop-Cam"

The officer was cruising behind a semi truck when the wind hit the side of the truck

Next thing you know the truck is lying on the left shoulder, on it's side.. Nobody hurt and not ticket issued The truck was NOT speeding and the road was "Straight and level"

I saw that video. Amazing hown that semi just lifted and began to lean to the left. Makes me think twice about pulling the 5er in bad wx.

I saw that video too. Yesterday, I saw a Class C really rocking in the wind. There was a Class A, not far behind it, not rocking at all. The Class C was rocking entirely too much for the amount of wind we had, so I don't know if they were having a suspension problem or what.
