Very good to hear from you Ken. I've not been very active on ORR, but intend to remedy that.

Listen out for our group on the 8th. My son, N4XCI and Norm, K4NEB have put this special event station together. If anyone has any questions, they can e-mail one of them. Their e-mail addresses are on QRZ.COM. Chris is the president of our local club which is about 25 strong. Info concerning the special event station appears in the January issue of QST on page 93.

Hope that you had a good Christmas Ken and here's wishing you and the family a Happy New Year.

Hi Jim and Barb.... They won't be on all those freqs at once, but probably two at least. The freqs might not me exact, but somewhere close. There's a nice QSL card made up for the event, if you're into that type thing. Lot of younger op's will be operating, so please be patient with them. We have 18 or 19 new hams in our small basically rual county.

Oh yes, this is a very rare county and grid square, if you have a friend into that aspect of ham radio.

Jim,
Will they be activating an account with eQSL or LOTW for the event?

Jim,
Will they be activating an account with eQSL or LOTW for the event?

Andy, not to my knowledge, but why don't you send a quick e-mail to one or both of the calls I gave in the original message and ask. Maybe you could encourage them to do that. I'll try to remember to ask, but don't bet money on me remembering. Hi hi...

I have saved this event to my calendar. I will listen for them on 28.372 since 10 meters is my only HF capability. I hope the band conditions cooperate, and I hope you have a successful event!

I will drum up interest on Twitter!

Thank you for the interest in the Special Event Station folks. I'll try to get some photos to post here on the forum of the group at work and the equipment. Like I say, most of these are new amateurs and most in their late teens and twenties. It will be a good experience for them and one they will never forget. I do hope the weather will cooperate with the club and it is not too cold. Plans are to operate from outside.

Chris (KE5ZRT), I do hope 10 meters cooperates with you for a contact, since that's your only HF capability. I've not stayed in close touch with the organizers, I'm not sure how many transmitters they will be running.

Thanks again and please try to spread the word at club meetings, etc...

Hi Guys,

They worked mostly 20 meters. That was their best band. I'm not sure, but I think he told me they had over 300 contacts on 20 alone. Someone listed them on several DX web sites, they had plenty of help from the word being passed.

Ten meters did nothing here today. I had one receiver tuned to 10 most of the day with no activity. Sorry guys.

They had so much fun and activity with DX that they are already talking about doing a "Light House Expedition." Cape San Blas, also in our county, maitains a light house on the Gulf, and talk is of planning to do a station event from there.

Thanks much for trying. I think my son still has a membership here. Maybe he'll post a report for us all to read.

Our club's first try at a special event station went well I believe. We had a couple of hurtles to over come Saturday morning and got a late start. Mr. Andy, N1ORK, thanks for the contact on 20 meters! I am sorry some were not able to contact us.

We got on the air a little late, our first contact was at 0944 hours eastern on 20 meters. We had a total of 233 contacts. 209 contacts were made on 20 meters and 24 were made on 40 meters. The other bands were not very cooperative! N4F had contacts in 34 States and five countries (Guatemala, Germany, Canada, Spain, and Cuba). We even worked a maritime mobile station on a commercial cruise liner that was just north east of Cuba.

73,
Chris

Glad to have made contact with you on 20m Chris. Looked for you on 40, but couldn't find you there or any of the other bands. Was on Skype with with your dad (Jim- w4ewa) at the same time, so he saw me make the contact on 20. You guys did pretty good for your first time, I'm sure you'll do better next time.
