Bull snake? Why didn't they just pick it up, carry it to the door, and throw it out? It's easy to pick up a snake, right behind the head. I was taught how, more than a half century ago, by a friend (a professor of herpetology) who used to milk rattlesnakes for the venom. He'd reach in and grab it, milk it into a small beaker, and put it back in its (glass) cage. Then he had me grab it the same way, if he was
certain he had completely drained its venom.
No gloves, either. I never tried it except under his close supervision (and only once or twice), but I was surprised how easy it was.
