FD Roosevelt SP, Warm Springs, GA
This is about 1.5 hours drive from my house, about 60 miles no matter which route you take.
The weather was wonderful, cool mornings and sometimes a cool evening.
FD Roosevelt SP (GA) is and old park, a lot of the sites are worn and not level and way too small for the average modern RV. But they're great for tents and pop ups and there were plenty of them there. The more modern sections will accommodate 30' and up RVs and the bath houses are new and nice in those sections.
We were lucky (hey it was Monday) to get one of the pull through sites right at the lake. The park was never crowded the week we were there.
We went into Warm Springs for lunch, ate at Macs BBQ, (recommended) and drove out to Dowdell's Knob which was FDRs favorite picnic spots and saw the statue of him there.
Went to the Little White House and found "little" to be the operative word. More like an ornate cabin on the inside, your average subdivision home nowadays is bigger. Very simple and rustic, I understand why he liked it so.
Being a visual person, I'll tease you here with a pic or two and put some more in an album in the photo gallery.
I guess the only bad part about the trip was that Sweet Wife was called home to a "Mandatory Meeting" and told the private school she teaches music at was shutting it's doors due to lack of enrollment. Since she wanted to mull that over for awhile, my son Matt returned to the park and finished out the trip with me. We had plenty of food so we tacked on an extra day.
Enjoy the pics.
