The factory caulked it around the edges. I suspect to keep water out of the wall structure. If caulk were not needed, I suspect the factory would have not bothered and added the few pennies to the bottom line.
I suspect any UV resistant white caulk would do the trick. Now to get out of
buying any for this little bitty project.
