I can think of two good reasons:
1. I know little of carpentry.
2. I know even less about chickens.
Sweet Wife found the plans on the internet. I think she had only 2 criterion:
1. It holds 6 hens
2. It's cute.
Being cheap was an afterthought, but with only 5 sheets of plywood, it's not bad.
