I think I'll work or try to work at least a couple of hours of the FQP on Saturday. Will be on 40 meters and possibly some 20 meters if it's open.

The county and grid I'm in is rare for the county hunters out there.

So Jim were you able to get on? I was on Saturday for a couple of hours on CW -- Signals were very weak here. I made about 40 contacts I guess. Was surprised a guys in the Azores and the UK answered my CQ.

Yes Mark, I was in and out Saturday, all during the day. Had a good time working 40 meters mostly. I tried all the bands but had the most success on 40. I didn't work any CW, it was all SSB. I logged only about 30 contacts but had a good time with it.

What really made my day was the fact almost every contact told me I was a new county for them. There are not many hams here and the hams that are here are not very active. The active ones seldom would participate in the QSO Party. Good guys just not their interest. Normally a friend from Panama City (NF4A) comes through here mobile to make contacts and travels on to some of the other rare counties. I did here him in the evening down around Dixie County. Charlie is a big contest ham op, we've known each other since we were kids. He travels abroad a couple of times a year to do contest work. He's an engineer for Clear Channel Radio.

I don't know what the multipliers were. I heard several stations thanking others for multipliers. I know amout of power, power source, etc all have to do with the op's points or class.

While on 20 meters I did hear some DX out of the middle east. This was during the middle of the day. Everything seemed dead except for that signal and maybe one or two others. I can't remember which country it was. I wrote down the call and looked it up.

Had a great time with my few contacts.

Jim

Hi Jim,
Wished I would have heard you! I worked 80 Florida stations this weekend. A multiplier is working a new county (outside Florida) or State, Province or DX Country (in Florida), so for in State Op’s you can have 48 multipliers for US contacts. A multiplier can be counted once per mode. So its # QSO’s X # multipliers X power factor. I had 80 contacts with 28 different counties and running low power, 80 X 28 X 2 = 4480 points. I was hoping to work half the counties, Owell next year. Did have fun!

Thanks for explaining Mark. I don't get too seriously involved as you can tell. I do enjoy making the contacts. I didn't do any calling, just tuned around listening for the CQ's.

Hello to all.... my first post here.

Well, it seems there is some sort of contest every weekend now a days, and sometimes even during the week. Besides the FQP there was another QP plus a RTTY contest going. I almost am not hoping for a good sunspot cycle, as then everyone will be on 24/7 and no place to have a good ragchew. Like I was telling Jim in an email, I operate mostly digital modes like PSK, Olivia, Hellschrieber and MFSK so hope to meet some of you on those modes someday.
