Default Well my shack is DOA

In 2004 I lost my job due to a buyout/liquidation and sold my following list

Kenwood 570sg
Icom 910H
G5RV
HAM IV ROTOR
Cushcraft A4S
Cushcraft A6270-13S
40 foot tower
2 Icom 2720
1 Icom v8000

It killed me but 6 months out of work I had to pay the bills.

I have now a Kenwood TM-V7A (I hate this radio) with a diamond X30A

But thanks to my friend Radio I am working on building a shack again

So what the best for the dollar HF rig available at the time? I sure did like my 570.

If my shack burned down tomorrow I'd get another TS-570. But your right, not another TMV-7a because the displays always go bad. Everything else about it I always liked. I have 2 TMV-7a's. One in the shack and the other will go in the trailer when that gets here. You just can't use the things mobile, but if you squint at it and fiddle with the display controls, they can be used fixed.

If you've got a half way decent computer and are pretty savy with operating systems and peripheral set-ups, you might want to try a software defined radio. Flex Radio seems to have the most advanced hardware. They just introduced their new versions, the 5000A and 5000C, so many of the owners of the original version, the 1000, are selling them at half or less of what they cost new. Somthing just over $1,000 for the basic unit and more for the various add ons like the transverter, etc.

If you go to their web site, Flex-Radio.com, you should be able to find units for sale in their reflector.

The best rig will always be the one that you are comfortable and happy with.

Example: I still prefer to use my antique Yaesu 301AD with matching tuner. Why because it works an serves the purpose, it doesn't have a lot of bells & whistles but it sure makes a nice mobile rig in the MH.
