Default Forum Changes Wednesday - Feb 22

Tomorrow the forum will be offline for a short time (under an hour) as we make a few changes.

When we return look for an updated look, a new scroll of recent posts and enhanced member albums to make posting pictures a lot simper.

Most else will remain the same but we are long overdue for a facelift.

Here's a sneak preview:

I guess it's still usable, but if this is an improvement it is most mysteriously and wonderfully made. Before, I could tell at a glance who had posted most recently in each thread. Now, because the only really useful info is crowded into the rightmost 1/4 of the screen, I can't. Alas.

It wasn't broke. Why fix it?

The right side column is all recent posts - the ones that have bolded titles have not yet been read BUT you can also click on new posts from the top nav bar or 'todays' posts under the quick links drop down.

The old portal page was sort of broken as it would not allow for a secure (https) login. While there's no real need for the entire site to have the secure login we thought that places where you were entering passwords should and so it has been replaced with the side bar display. Give it some time - it may grow on you

Perhaps. I did see that by looking in the rightmost-but-one column I could, after all, tell who had posted most recently.

But even the threads I have read seem bolded, and none are unbolded. So I can't tell whether they contain posts new to me.

Certainly HTTPS is absolutely necessary for logging in.

Well, dog my cats. After I posted, all those bolded listings in the rightmost column got unbolded. A poltergeist, no doubt.

Bug report:

At the right side is a column listing threads with recent posts. These are [supposed to be] shown in bold if I haven't viewed the recent posts, and in normal (not bold) type if I have.

For most of them, this works. But there are several threads that stay bold no matter how many times I have viewed the thread. Among these are Alaska and Test and a couple others. They stay bold even if I thumb through the whole thing, log off, and log back on. Thus I can't tell which threads I have viewed and which I haven't.

So - I think this is a cookie issue and experienced this issue myself after the recent change. Can you try scrolling down to the bottom of the board and clicking on the "mark all forums read" link?

That seems to have worked -- none of them are bold now. I'll have to wait until someone else posts to complete the checkout.

It may be that ONLY new topics are bold.. Recent but not new are normal

And if no new messages since last log in (or if only one and you are reading it) NO bold.

How I'd program it.
