Default Camping right now, anyone for a sked?

Well we made it to our campground and will be here through the 1st. I brought the HF rig and will set it up tomorrow after the rain clears out and was wondering if anyone might want to make a connection. I'm staying at a lake called Collins Lake in Northern California. I don't think I would be able to make it across the nation with the way that bands have been and might not make it across the state, who knows. But I'm willing to try.

I sure hope everyone has a great New Years!

Well let's try this again.

I have tried to reply twice now.
Give us a frequency and I will try from my mobile.
Happy New Year,

OK I will let you know after I get setup and see how the bands are doing. Right now it is raining and my Buddipole does not do so well in the rain the coils detune when they get wet I need to make the coil covers. The storm should go over today some time and we are suppose to be clear the rest of the trip. Most likely I will be on Sunday and Monday and maybe tonight weather permitting.

Half of my 160 - 10 m folded dipole is rolled up in the garage. The other half is still on the tower, thanks to some rough weather awhile back.

So I'm open to anything 20 - 10 meters that I can work with the quad.

Well, me and Bill just made ORR.net history!!!

With a signal report of 229 with really poor band conditions we set up and kept the first ORR.net on-the-air schedule!

Maybe as band conditions improve we can do more of these!

It was fun making a QSO across the US from my trailer. What made this happen was the fact that Radio has a great antenna system. It was rough copy at times but when I had a break I went out side and turned my Buddipole toward and then I was hearing radio much better.

I did run into some problems as usual, I for got to bring my 10 gauge zip cord I was going to use to get power from the converter so had to come up with another idea. What I did was cut 2 pieces of RG8X coax connect the shield to the center conductor add a red and black powerpole to one end and connect the other end to a fused terminal on the converter and the other one to the ground buss. But did get it to work. It also took me some time to get the Buddipole to a good swr I have replaced the stock adjustable whip with the longer ones so the coil taps are different but finally got a flat 1.1 to 1.5 across the band the longer whips really increase the band width.

While I was talking to Wade (radio) my radio started shut down, the problem is seperation cable I was using, when I'm close to the antenna and using the cable it will shut down. I put on a fairrite clamp on choke and now it works OK now. My IC706mkiig is so sensitive to RF. I also get noise from the converter so I will have to install some chokes and caps on it but it is not real bad and it comes and goes it is inly bad when it is floating the battery when I put a load on it the noise will go away.

I will try to get a picture of the antenna tomorrow and post it. I will also be on all day tomorrow so if anyone wants to try to make a QSO let me know. I will listen for KE5BI tonight but don't have 80 meters here. Anyway thanks for the QSO Wade.

I heard you in there William but just barely. I am 95W in Camp Verde, AZ so maybe someone else can connect better.

Thanks for the short QSO!

Thanks for the Short QSO, just to much QSB on the band. At times I could hear you real good then you would disappear into the noise. I'm running 100 watts into a Buddipole antenna only about 5 feet above the trailer. I will be on all day tomorrow so if you want to try again let me know.

I have to work tomorrow. Maybe another time. I am 95W into an A6TV multiband. I am committed to be on the same schedule every night so give it a shot whenever you feel like it. I am going to switch from 80M to 40M when I get a chance to climb up and swap antennas. I am trying to contact Ecuador and 40M is a better shot than 80M.

OK I will look for you tomorrow and see if the band is any better and when I get home I will try you from the home QTH and see if I can work you better from there.

Okay, I switched to the 40M Antenna so I am switching frequencies on you. 20M will stay the same as the tuning did not seem to change much. I cannot always make it home by 5PM so I will be calling my friends in Ecuador when I can and you are welcome to come in if you hear me. Today I am home already and on the air on 14.300 I will be there until 6ish and then switch per the schedule

Ham Schedule Starting 31 Dec. 2007
UT AZ(-7) EQ(-5) Freq. Contingency
0000 5PM 7PM 14.300 Busy, up 5Khz every 5 minutes
0100 6PM 8PM 07.205 Busy, up 5Khz every 5 minutes
