Hello all. Saw the forum on a RVnet post and decided to join. Just got my Tech license on 2/19 and passed the General on 3/9. Not certain what type of rig I'll get but an old tube set and CW seem an interesting combo along with a newer style mobile rig.

Been Rving with wife in a Trail Lite 211 B+ for about 6000 miles in trips last year after being away from the RVs for 15 years. Retired Navy but still working here in Virginia until we try snow birding in a few years with a bigger rig. Hobbies include Civil War History and travel, grandkids, RV maintenance, and grandkids. Hope to be able to add to the group.

Well... April is coming up. Since you got your TECH in Feb, Your General in March, how about joining us Extras in April?

IN a stick house the old tube rigs are good. and they have advantages in other areas as well, But in a motor home or TT you need something compact and power efficient. Tubes are not compact (Save perhaps the Nuvistor) and are not efficient power wise.

THEY DO, however, have a tendency to survive EMP's that would blow a transistor to atoms

Welcome aboard Happyjack! You like tubes? You can get a Heathkit HW-101 off Ebay for $100. Lots of other good rigs that are hybrids, only the finals are tubes, and they can be had fairly cheap, too.

Lots of helpful peolpe here, jump right in!
