What are your plans for Dec 21, 2012?
There used to be a joke about TV news, about the time some stations were still using 16mm film and others had converted to portable ENG (electronic news gathering) equipment.
World Ends Today...Film at 11 o'clock!
So for fun, let's assume the world really ends on December 21, 2012.
Then there's no point in doing some things, like paying the mortgage (or any other bills, for that matter) putting up the Christmas Tree (or shopping) or hoarding groceries (because if the world ends, then who needs groceries?)
Besides, I've still got my survival gear leftover from Y2K, when the world system was to collapse because computers weren't going to roll over from 1999 to 2000. Remember that?
But lets assume the folks in the tinfoil hats have it right. (this time) Some dark asteroid is headed our way and BLAMMO... no more earth.
This is different from knowing that your own life as an individual is concluding. I/we would not want to leave our survivors with some mess to clean up.
But if the entire planet and all life on it ends on a day certain, that is an entirely different scenario. In this case you are relieved of many moral obligations. If the power company is not going to exist after the winter solstice, then there is not much point in paying the December power bill.
What would be your plans?
I'd take the family (including our grown kids, who have never been on an RV trip with us) down to Dauphin Island. I'd clean out the bank and max the credit cards on good seafood and spend a lot of quiet time with them on the beach. My wife would play her music for anyone who wanted to listen. My son would bring his telescope to see the asteroid as it approached.
But there is no asteroid and the world I suspect will not be ending quite just yet, so I guess tomorrow it's off to work at 5 am as usual, and I'd better pay the ORR.net server bill for this month
But, just for fun, what would be your plans?

There is an old saying "Live each day as though it were your last"
Good advice because later, one of them will be (Can't be sooner or you'd not be around to take the advice)
Odds are very very very good.. It will not be 12/21/2012.
There is one, and only one prediction of the end of the world I believe.
When Christ was ask when the end of the world woudl come his reply was that he did not know, only the father in Heaven knowns and he has not told anyone.
That is the one prediction I believe,,, I do not know.
I have read about preachers who claim to have researched the Bible and say the world will end on "Date". That said.... They claim to be better than Jesus? Right. (So far they have all been .. WRONG)
The best "Myan" Comment I have seen was a cartoon panel.. The Myan is making his calendar, he runs out of room and says "That's gonna drive some people crazy when the end approaches" or words to that effect.
Teh calendar on my wall ends 12/31.. The one in my bad does too but a year later.

We are in theological agreement, but remember this is a frivolous thread.
My favorite cartoon the Myan is making his calendar and a friend asks him "2012? Why 2012?" The response is, "No more Twinkies"
*****
My actual plans include an early Christmas gathering of my side of the extended family on Dec 22.

AH HA! I found it!

On another note, tomorrow is the last sequential date until 01-01-01 (3001). It will be 12-12-12.
Chew on that one.....

I still liked the one where the guy simply ran out of room on the stone tablet.
Hey, if the world ends.. Then I don't have to pay off the loan on the motor home, that simple. If it doesen't end, then.. Well it dosen't end.

Ok my last comment on the Mayan calendar pile of Poo going around
I read an article yesterday that NO Writings of any type of disaster were found with Mayan artifacts. And the fact they could not even predict their extinctions gives rise to the question on how they could predict the world end.
The article went on to explain that the disaster and or human kind change, have come from
Wait for it

I always kidded with my family that the guy in charge of carving the calender quit because he was tired of doing it. He probably joked with the guy next to him about what would happen in the world when they got to the end of the calender.
My other joke was about how I only have 2 Credit cards and since I wasn't entirely sure that it was going to end that I maxed out only one of them.

On 12/21 I will be pre-packing the motor home (That is packing up what I pack up the day BEFORE I take off), that is unless I get a ride to church on Saturday.
Saturday 12/22 our pastor gets "installed' in this country's newest Catholic parish (Upgraded from a Mission which it was last Month) and Well, I'll be there to help sing him into his new office.
And we get to go back on Christmas Eve too... Tons of fun (As it happens I love singing so I'm not being in the least sarcastic when I say tons of fun)
