Default That list of 37 things...

All over the internet there are ads touting the 37 things that, we are told:

> are sold out and unavailable after an emergency
> the government doesn't want you hoarding
> you will absolutely die without right after we get nuked
> your starving neighbors will come after you with pitchforks to get

And I think for the prices they charge for the little information you receive, it's a scam that needs to be busted.

So for all you preppers, and prepper wanna-bes, here are the 37 items (with my parenthetical comments)

37 item list

1. Water
2. Pasta
3. Rice
4. Canned soups
5. Canned meats
6. Canned Fruits
7. Canned veggies
8. Popcorn
9. Salt
10. Milk
11. Cereals (oatmeal, grits, good dry cereals)
12. Beef Jerky
13. Grains (as in whole grains)
14. Cooking oils
15. Sports Drinks
16. Nuts
17. Pickles (include veggies, meats, etc)
18. Dried Fruits
19. Spices
20. Honey
21. Crackers
22. Baking essentials (flour, corn meal, sugar, etc.)
23. Power Bars (that do not contain chocolate)
24. Instant Rice
25. Coffee/Tea and the fixings to go with them
26. Alcohol (as in booze)
27. Hard Candies
28. Dehydrated/canned entries
29. Juice powders
30. Protein drinks
31. Peanut butter
32. Long lasting treats (Pop Tarts, etc)
33. Salsa
34. Ramen Noodles
35. Fresh Fruit
36. Baby food/special diet items
37. Pet food

And that's the end of the official list. The world will be sold completely out of all these things. Hoard now. So they say. Feel free to poke fun, since they suggest hoarding pasta, but nothing to put on it. Ramen noodles? Salsa? Regular rice and instant rice?

I wonder how much beer will be left whenever whatever is supposed to happen, finally happens? The alcohol the recommend is Jack Daniels. (No kidding) And if you don't drink it, you can always barter it.

Other stuff:

They do mention in other publications (that you can spend more money to get) that you might ought to hoard up as well. I guess it's separate because you can't eat this stuff.

1. Soap(s)
2. Toilet paper
3. Paper plates, cups, etc
4. Plastic forks, etc
5. Paper towels
6. Batteries of all kinds
7. Basic first aid stuff
8. Basic medicines (headache, upset stomach)
9. Basic hygiene items (toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant)
10. “Sources of Light”
11. Bleach and other cleaning supplies
12. Baby and elder care items
13. Means of cooking
14. Sunscreen
15. Insect repellent
16. Gasoline (for transportation and generator, etc)

And they never did mention prescription medications.

And totally forgot and

What say ye? (Comment, poke fun, refute, ignore, whatever)

What, no Twinkies? Oh, that's right, they're already sold out of Twinkies.

See, that's a disaster. We should have hoarded twinkies...

Can't get Twinkies, but there are competing products that are essentially identical to Twinkies. Mrs Freshley's Dreamies (not the cat treats) and Little Debbie Cloud Cakes are virtually indistinguishable from Twinkies.

the free market always fills a need. capitalism always heals itself if left alone long enough, although the scars might remain.

I wonder if Twinkies were on the belly fat list?

Default Other things to hoard...

What about ammo? I can't believe that's not on the list! I was going to buy a couple thousand rounds, but it looks like the hoarders got theirs before I could hoard up.

One round and you can have food for a week.
