Default snake elimination

Daughter called the other day. Told the following story, has to be true since it was from the minister visiting their church last Sunday.

Seems like the minister and wife were camping in their unit (probably a trailer) when they discovered a large snake inside the unit.
They called for help, 3 guys came, one with a hoe one with a knife and one with a shotgun.

Yup, it was the guy with the shotgun that "removed" the snake.

So now they needed to take it in to repair the hole in the unit, and it was quite a show.

The repair shop said they never had to repair a hole from a shotgun blast thru the wall of a camper before.

I would have bludgeoned the snake with the shotgun.

PS - it was a bull snake, non-poisonous.

Your judgment of preachers differs from mine -- in fact it's nearly a perfect opposite.

Bull snake? Why didn't they just pick it up, carry it to the door, and throw it out? It's easy to pick up a snake, right behind the head. I was taught how, more than a half century ago, by a friend (a professor of herpetology) who used to milk rattlesnakes for the venom. He'd reach in and grab it, milk it into a small beaker, and put it back in its (glass) cage. Then he had me grab it the same way, if he was certain he had completely drained its venom.

No gloves, either. I never tried it except under his close supervision (and only once or twice), but I was surprised how easy it was.

Yeah, if three Americans on a train in France can bludgeon a Moroccan terrorist with his own AK-47, a bull snake ought to be a piece of cake.

Yep, you need to be able to identify snakes so that you don't do such stupid things.

Dick...

I imagine some redneck sitting in a bar someplace getting belly laughs telling stories about the time he blew a hole in some old guys camper shooting at a bull snake... and got clean away with it.

No wonder she left him! For safety sake!

I have mediocre eyesight at best... but I always wear my glasses when shooting at stuff...

Lucky it was only the phone cord. He could have shot -- well -- himself.

If it's a choice between a bull snake in the living room, and a hog in the living room, I druther have the snake. And with your suggestion we'd have a bull snake and a hog. Fighting.
