All pack up and ready to go!!

We leave tomorrow before sun up to go get the new Rockwood. We don't have to leave that early, but it's cool, less traffic and Sweet Wife likes to start early on long trips.

OK, I don't think another thing can be crammed into the truck. Between wanting the bed cover closed and the hitch in the middle of the bed, the cargo space in back is WAY reduced!

The tarp will keep things dry if it rains tonight. The last remaining space behid the drivers seat is for the camera bag which I loaded after I took these pictures!

Don't laugh, some of you put this much stuff and more in your truck and you already have your trailer!!

Off to bed...will post again in a few days if time and wi-fi allow.

We're bedded down about 45 minutes from RVW. Tomorrow is the big day. There was no real traffic and a plesant cloud cover all the way up during the 10 hour drive.

Now the part that bowled me over today. With two people, all that stuff and the cruise set at 65 or 70 depending on speed limits...the F-150 got 19.23 MPG!!!

The bad news...I-75 is the roughest strech of road I have been on in a long, long time. I am NOT looking forward to towing on that bumpy strip of asphalt.

Many roads that were always in great shape in the past are trashed now and the states are not maintaining them the way the should.
I hit a rut so bad on interstate 5 in CA just N of Sacramento a few years back that it knocked the fiberglass storage door right out of the locked frame on the front of my 39' 3 axle trailer!
It really jolted us in the 1 ton dually truck too.
And CA used to have some the the best roads too. They have some of the highest state taxes on gallon of gas but the state steals that money for use elsewhere. They have been doing that for years now.

Boy did you hit that on the nailhead......They seem more interested in giving welfare and free medical care to the illegals.

Picked up the trailer yesterday (Saturday) and everything is going well so far. The only defect we have seen so far is the kitchen table is too close to the wall so you cant let the window shade down all the way.

My first attempt at parking the thing we'll rate as "OK" and we were lucky enough to get a pull through site that doesn't require backing into. I do need to be more patient with leveling the trailer. Not to bad, all in all for first time out.

Kathy has jumped right in and commandered control of the kitchen! Cooked our first meal this morning and coffee from the percolator smelled really great. As it was 4th of July weekend the KOA park was crowded and noisy with mild partying and fireworks until midnight. The matress was great! Got better sleep than at the bug-barn we stayed at Friday night.

Moving in was hard work, but fun, for both of us. Kathy's word of the week is "WOW!!!" Pictures are sometimes worth more than words. See attached.

The road from the dealer to here is 2 lane highway. We were passed head on by several 18 wheelers at highway speed. Didn't even feel them. Aside from some bouncing on rough roads the trailer is well mannered. Find out for sure Tuesday when we tow from here to Lake Cumberland State Park, KY.

How could you ask for more???
Most of the rigs we have had were 5th wheels from 24'-39'. We had 5 of them over the years.
Now it's a MH. Getting older and even the ease of setting up the 5th wheel is a bit much for the older set with a bad back in the mix.
We had about the same truck as you. An '05 with the 5.4, 300 HP and 3.55 gears. We got 10-14 towing with it with the last rig at 8200#. It was a 4x2 and there were times we wish we had the 3.73 or 4.10 gearing but we liked 17-20 unloaded at a fast cruise.
Enjoy the new rig and camping. We got out of tents in the 70s with our family and really enjoyed it over the years.
We started with a small MH, had two tent trailers, a standard trailer and 4 5vers over the years. Now it's the big MH. This one we will live in for a few years in our travels if we are lucky enough to find a buyer for the home someday.

Good looking 5'er and a good tow vehicle. Interior looks spacious. We're still enjoying your great State of Georgia. Lots of good places to eat here in Dillard and a great RV park.
