I did it !!!!!!
Went to The local club meeting tonight and tried my hand at the general.
PASSED..... I am now KF5BET general.
They guys there talked me into trying for the Extra.
DID NOT PASS..... but they told me I had more right than wrong.
But Oh my...I didn't have a clue at what most of the questions were asking on the extra. I will definetly have some studying for that one. I am probably going to wait for a while on the extra ticket. I need to absorb all of the general stuff for a while.
I am happy with what I did.
See you guys on the air (sometime)

Congrats Galen!!
Just a little more studying and some more QRZ quizes and you'll get that Extra. Hope to hear you on the HF bands now.

Congratulations Galen.... We all knew you would do it.
We're campin' at Frank Jackson SP in Opp, AL. Have been here since Sunday. I need to set up my ham gear. Will open a thread and post a few pics later.

It was actually quite funny...because they talked me into giving the extra a try.. I haven't even looked at a study book or online flash cards... They told me it wouldn't cost me anything since I already paid the fee for the general. There were some people taking tech tests and when I finished, they asked how I did and I replied it ought to be pretty amusing (I think I made them nervous).
I was totally lost on most of the questions, although a few questions I did recognize.
They told me I got at least half of them right.
I don't know... think I really need to focus on the general concepts, and maybe start working on cw.

I have studied for the Extra and my old Mechanical Engineering brain has a lot of trouble with much electricity.
Contras on the General.

The way I look at it, you didn't have anything to lose Galen. I'm with you, go to work on the CW. If you are like me, you will enjoy it. It is my favorite mode. Even though it is not required, I recommend you learn it. I think you will find it totally different than voice on HF and a different type of ham working CW. I find a lot of us old timers on CW. If you ask, they will slow down to help you. Most do not mind at all.
Good luck with it !!!

All I need to do now is convince the wife that we need to convert a room into a ham shack.
