NEW ORR Echolink Net - January 3, 2011 @ 7PM CT/8PM ET
I realize this is quick notice and we probably will not get a lot of takers on our first time out but plans are to resume the old ORR Echolink Net that was started by W4RAA in times past.
I'll be calling the net tomorrow evening so please connect to my call, W4EWA (Node no. 425028). The net will begin at 1900 hours, Central Time/2000 hours Eastern. I'll let you guys out on the West Coast and in the Mountain Zone compute your times.
Please pass the word around and gather as many as we can. I know a poll was conducted and the higher vote was for an HF Net and I'm more than willing to participate in an HF net. It's just very difficult in my opinion to get us all together on HF. Some of us too far apart, some too close. I do wish someone would proceed with that idea, the HF net, I think it would be great fun and probably spark a lot of interest and cause the forum to also grow.
If by some chance, I do not make the net on time, Chris, KE5ZRT is my backup, so look for his call to connect to. I doubt it will happen, but Andy, N1ORK is Chris' backup, in that order.
Hope to over load the circuits guys. We will be looking for you all.
NOTE: One hour prior to this net, you are more than welcome to check into our local two-meter net. KE5ZRT has been checking in with us and everyone really enjoys having Chris visit. You can connect to our local reapeater and talk to all our club members on that net by connecting to W4WEB-R. We would love to have you visit with us here on the Gulf Coast.
73,
Jim

Speaking of ORR Nets, a thought occurred to me. I am aware of a group that holds a net on 40 meters, on Sunday afternoons. This group has a similar problem to ours. They are spread out all over the U.S. They run their 40 meter SSB Net simaltaneous to their EchoLink Net. Stations that cannot be heard by the NCS on 40 Meters check in with the NCS on EchoLink. It works out rather well, with some comments being relayed from EchoLink over to SSB and the reverse.
It occurred to me that we could attempt something of this nature if anyone was interested. We might even try 20 Meter SSB rather than 40 in an attempt to communicate with our west coast members.
Your comments and thoughts please?

Good evening,
We had a great time last night. The net started a little earlier than planned and rocked on for approximately an hour. It was not a big turn out, we had four check-ins, but a quality turn out.
Those checking in were:
N1ORK
KE5ZRT
K4AC
W4EWA
Things were very informal and discussions were in "round table fashion". Everything was discussed from Skype software to logging programs. EchoLink may be a stretch for calling it Ham Radio, but one radio was in use, a Droid X.
Put the EchoLink Net on next Mondays schedule and join us at 7 Central/8 Eastern.

I have been accessing EchoLink with my Droid phone, but today I purchased a headset for my laptop and I think I have all of the settings adjusted to setup a conference if and when needed. The EchoLink interface is a little less intuitive on the laptop as compared to the Droid, but I believe I have it all worked out.

The ORR Calendar is still not working to do reminders, so this is a brief reminder to invite you to join us tomorrow evening (Monday, every Monday) at 7:30 CT, 8:30 ET for the ORR Echolink Net. Please connect to W4EWA fo our 2nd weekly roundtable net. Very informal and most enjoyble exchange of information concerning amateur radio, RV's and just about anything you can think of.
In case of my abscence, please connect to Chris, KE5ZRT or Andy, N1ORK. I promise you will enjoy the experience.
Put a sticky on your monitor screen, in your computer calendar or a cell phone reminder. Thank you and we would be pleased to have you join us.

I believe the net is to begin at 1900 central according to the OP.
Although there were only 3 check-ins, we had a great net with some very good conversation. Andy N1ORK, Jeff (JD) N4NRU, and I talked for a little more than an hour. It was good to meet JD who is a new member of ORR.
We hope to hear more folks on the the ORR EchoLink net next week. If you are having trouble finding the net control station for the net, simply run a search in EchoLink (click on the little binoculars) for Open Roads Radio Net and you should be able to find us without any problems.

No problem. I am still having trouble with my echolink settings though. No one was able to connect to me. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I have the same problem Chris. I know I have connectivity issues with my dsl modem and then the wireless router. Maybe some day I will get it straight (if I ever just make myself sit down and do it!).

Hope to hear you all on the ORR net this evening. Connect to KE5ZRT at 1900 central on EchoLink. Or in EchoLink, you can run a search for ORR, or Open Roads Radio to find the net also.

Andy, N1ORK, and I had some really great conversation on the ORR net this evening, even though there were not any other check-ins. I hope to get to know some more of you during the next ORR net Monday, January 24th at 7:00 pm central.

tried connecting to the W4EWA repeater this evening, but for some reason my phone would not connect. I also tried connecting to Chris' node but would not connect as well.
Not sure what went wrong.
I was a little late; tried to get on around 19:20 because that is when I finished with the local 2m net.
Will keep trying. Not sure if the iphone is set up correctly.

Sorry we missed you. We shut things down around 19:25 or so. Hopefully we can get you in next Monday.

I think I have everything working here again and the leg and ankle are better. Hopefully I'll be there next Monday evening, but you can go ahead and do the honors if you wish Chris (KE5ZRT).

Good morning Galen. There is no W4EWA repeater. If you are speaking of trying to check into the local 2-meter net here, it's listed as W4WEB-R. Close but a little different. Hi Hi
