Vince,
I was stationed at 32nd street aboard the DE/FF 1058 Meyerkord way back in the mid 70s. Although the ship is now automobiles and razor blades (scrapped).
I absolutely loved the San Diego area but I have heard that it has changed a lot.
I might have stayed when I got out, if the cost of living wasn't so high. I returned to Michigan where I knew I could get a decent job fairly easy, in the auto industry, at the time.
Welcome to the board, looking forward to your posts.

Vince, hello.
Ross, from Fallbrook. No callsign yet, took my test last week, just waiting for the FCC to process my app...
Are you a member of any of the local HAM groups? Been thinking I should join some, but don't know where to start.

Hi, Vince --
Carl here, NN5I. Born in San Diego, but that was a long time ago. Still love it, but don't like California government or California cost of living, alas. Last time I visited was in 2005, I think, for a (50th) reunion of students of Yokohama American High School -- from all of which you can tell I'm a Navy brat.
Welcome!

Welcome aboard Rod!
I find the local ham club an immense source of information. Our local club is pretty friendly and fairly active. A lot of the guys are eager to help.
Good luck with the new hobby!
Galen

TRAILING WIRE. Worked for WW2 Aircraft, should work for RV. Lower band, longer wire.

I recommend a screw drive antenna, simple and they work great.
