Default Good News SORTA....

So the wife comes to me yesterday and tells me that she has been drying a load of clothes through three cycles and the clothes still aren't dry.

I move the dryer out and start to see what's wrong with it... I do the obligatory cleaning behind the dryer and look down and find a bill wadded up. Pick it up and its a ten. Continue cleaning and find another bill..a twenty, then find another ten..

I'm thinking yeah this will at least help with the parts purchase.

Troubleshooting commences and the result is the heating element has shorted out. Go onto the computer and look up the part and guess what...The cost of the part is $43.00.

So the dryer is fixed and running for all of $3.00.

Speaking of nickels, dimes and shorting out, our old (now retired) Maytag dryer would short out the heating element if coins were left in your pockets and wound up in the dryer. There was a little space, about 1/2 inch, at the front of the drum right at the door. If coins fell down in there, there was a good change they'd short between the element and the metal frame of the dryer.

And once shorted, it would then burn itself open.

The most I ever made fixing the dryer was about 85 cents.

On the dryer that came with the house I used to have I had two heat elements, when the active one developed an OPEN (Never a short) Id swap it with the spare, Drop the "Old" one at Detroit Edison appliance re-build center,, and a couple days later pick it up for the next time the element failed.. Very inexpensive.

All they did was replace the wire element (And on one occasion an insulator)
